Longterm Progression of Program Design
[A SNEAK PEAK OF THE FUNCTIONAL CONJUGATE PROGRAMMING SPECIALIST CERTIFICATION]
Do you struggle knowing how to progress your clients longterm? You're not alone.
This video is straight from the Functional Conjugate Programming Specialist Certification and is one in a series of several videos on this very topic. If this video brings you value, drop your information below to join the VIP list and be the first to know when doors open and save yourself $200 👇
In this lesson, I break down what long-term programming really means—and why it shouldn’t mean rigidly mapping out 52 weeks in advance.
Instead, I walk you through a 16-week framework that uses flexible, evidence-based strength and conditioning methods that adapt to the ups and downs of real life, while still moving toward a clear goal.
Whether we’re focused on max strength, hypertrophy, or performance, this approach is built around the Functional Conjugate system and designed to evolve.
- Long-term programming should have a clear destination, but stay flexible enough to adjust for client feedback, life changes, and how they’re actually responding.
-
In this 16-week structure, I show you how to progress through different strength methods like wave loading, cluster sets, submaximal effort, and max effort in a logical way.
-
Every 4-week block keeps dynamic effort and repeated effort in place, while the main strength method and movement variations change to keep progress moving.
-
Conditioning progresses too, starting with Zone 2 and mixed modality variations that adjust based on client goals, equipment, and availability.
-
I intentionally reuse some movement variations across different blocks to build familiarity, reinforce motor patterns, and help clients build confidence and capacity.
-
We finish the 16-week block with a max-effort test like a 1RM squat or bench to build buy-in and prove progress—especially important for well-trained clients.
-
Using the Functional Conjugate framework, I can easily swap in different methods, lifts, or training splits when life throws a curveball.
-
I’ve written long-term plans before that I’ve thrown in the trash—because programming has to evolve. My current plans are always better than my old ones, and that’s how it should be.
